When you think of ice cream, you probably don’t think of avocados and coconuts. But that’s all husband and wife team, Brian and Rachel Nolan could think about as they embarked on making their ice-cream alternative ‘Frozen Goodness’ back in 2012.
Brian and Rachel are the founders of Nobó. As well as the aforementioned ice-cream, this Ireland-based health food business is whipping up a whole range of simple, healthy and dairy-free delicious treats thanks to their former years living and working in a dietary-conscious New York City, and a year spent living, loving and breathing food (and food production) in Italy. With all this combined, Nobó are now on a mission to make sure people take seriously their ethos to ‘Treat Yourself Better’.

"When we talk about delicious treats, people probably think of sugar, dairy, gluten and highly-processed ingredients. Nobó is not about any of that. The ice-cream made from avocados and coconuts in a borrowed blender was just the start", smiles Rebecca Garrett, Digital Marketing Exec at Nobó.
"Nobó’s ingredients are plant-based, simple and natural, and our products make you feel good because they ARE good. We’re about minimal ingredients (all products contain less than 7 ingredients),minimal processing (no refined sugar, gums, stabilizers or other nasties), and minimal packaging (all is compostable or recyclable). So when it came to making sure we could tempt everyone with our treats online, we needed a great platform with functionality to give our customers fun ways to buy our products."
With ice cream being just the start, and with Nobó having branched out into a whole world of vegan treats with their brand, the ability to enable their customers to bundle up on offers has been a key part of the company’s e-commerce strategy. Right now, thanks to Bundle Builder, Nobó are giving their customers the options to pick and mix everything from chocolates to their recently launched nut butters, spreads & drizzles.
Because how is it even a real treat if you can’t fully indulge in a bundle?
Of course, not all of our wonderful Bundle Builder merchants start out with our app – or even on Shopify. Nobó were originally operating from a WordPress site, but switched to Shopify for the e-commerce features and the backend analytics and capabilities that would best serve their business as well as their customers. Once the transition to Shopify was complete, all they needed to do was select an app that would allow them to showcase all their vegan & dairy free treats available.
In particular, it was important for the brand to have an online space to promote their Flagship store – or Nobó ‘home’ – The Treathouse, based in Dublin 6 which is soon to launch. Although the physical shop was designed to be a treat for all the senses in allowing customers to get a glimpse of Nobó’s chocolatiers and master craftsmen and women at work, the online shop has a role to play for those who wish to sample what the Treathouse has to offer should they not be able to visit.
"In using Bundle Builder we’ve been able to encourage our customers to try new treats and to engage with savings and offers when they buy multiple products - which we really want them to do because we have such wonderful things that work together in combination", claims Rebecca.
"So, for example, in the beginning, our buttons were €2.10 each, or a case of 20 buttons of one single flavour for €39.90. Bundle Builder has been a godsend, because it enabled our customers to be able to mix and match buttons across the full range of flavours, meaning they could customise their own cases for exactly what they fancied. It’s been a really fun option to promote, and a really enjoyable user experience for our customers, who tell us they love mixing and matching their favourites, and putting together a ‘pick and mix’ bundle of new things to try."
And, whilst we know the team at Nobó find the concept of their customers mixing and matching their flavours highly enjoyable and consumer-focussed, what has enabled the business to grow further is the option customers now have through Bundle Builder to mix and match products from across the same flavour range – there’s everything from buttons to nut butters, and jars to bars. We’re getting hungry just typing about it.
"Whilst we’re always happy to tell anyone who’ll listen about our joy with the features of Bundle Builder, it’s important we don’t forget to mention that what was equally important to us was customer care and service”, adds Rebecca. “You guys at Eight have really looked after us, given us great advice, and helped us make the most of every single feature available to Nobó as we build our bundles – and beyond! Because we understand how it all works thanks to the onboarding call, this translates to the pleasant experience and journey that our customers have - and we can’t put a price on that."
Whilst bundling is kind of our thing, it doesn’t mean that our design features are all lumped in as one generic style for our merchants’ sites. Just as Nobó have had some fun with theirs, all of our merchants have the freedom, scope and ability to easily select and apply their own colours, styles and choices of phrasing across your bundle pages. This ensures that you can build your brand as well as your bundles! Rebecca told us she loves how instead of the classic ‘add to basket’ instruction, Nobó now use phrases such as ‘go for it’, instead, to really showcase their brand voice.
